History
In 1896, Frank Hanna, one of Trail’s founding fathers, assembled a meeting consisting of 45 people. The result of that meeting was a decision to continue to meet every Monday night on “matters pertaining to the health of the city and its protection from fire”. The 45 dedicated business owners were experts in their fields such as mining, trades, hairdressing, shoe-making, butchering, insurance brokerage, manufacturing, and auctioning.
The Trail & District Chamber of Commerce was incorporated on December 11, 1900 under Part 1 of the Federal Board of Trade Act, governed by a board of directors.
With a forward vision of creating a business support organization that has transpired over the centuries, today our Chamber has grown to serve five municipalities in the South Kootenays which include Rossland, Warfield, Trail, Montrose, Fruitvale, and RDKB Areas A and B. As our growing organization evolves, our vision and focus remain to leverage platforms and tools to ask questions, encourage conversation, spark discussion and act on the insights gained to further business and community development.
