From historical treasures to artistic showcases, this adventure invites explorers to connect with the South Kootenay.
In the City of Trail, immerse yourself in the area’s rich history and vibrant cultural scene. Anchored by the stunning Riverfront Centre—a state-of-the-art facility combining a museum, library, and visitor centre—it’s the perfect starting point for exploring Trail’s storied past. Discover local history at the Museum and Archives, or pick up the latest tourism guide from the visitor centre with maps, attractions, and must-visit places. Trail keeps the community spirit alive year-round with events like Silver City Days and Spooktacular, offering something for every season. Be sure to visit Trail’s iconic walking bridge, well-maintained parks, aquatic centre, historic downtown, rock walls, and colorful murals that showcase the area’s character.
The Gold Fever Follies, held each summer in Rossland, offer a lively and high-energy experience that takes audiences back to the gold rush days of the late 1890s. This original, family-friendly musical comedy features cancan dancing and catchy tunes, with stories inspired by real-life, historical Rossland characters. Since 1987, the local troupe has brought the community’s heritage to life with humor and flair, making each season a unique delight. One Quest participant shared how they “look forward to a new show every year” – be sure to grab a keepsake and pose for a photo with the talented cast after the show!
The newly updated Teck Interpretive Centre in Trail invites visitors to explore the region’s industrial history, which has been key to its growth. Free guided tours offer an in-depth look at the innovative processes behind Teck’s zinc and lead operations, including the world’s largest fully integrated smelting and refining complex.
Interactive exhibits and displays provide fascinating facts, such as Teck’s significant role in producing the medals for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games. This industrial tourism gem highlights Teck’s unwavering support for the community.
Live performances take center stage at The Bailey Theatre in Trail. The Theatre is the largest performing arts venue in the region, offering an intimate and welcoming atmosphere with a seating capacity of 721.
Managed by the nonprofit Trail and District Arts Council, this cultural hub hosts a diverse range of performances, from live music and theatrical productions to dance shows and performances for children. It also features The Griff, a smaller space for more intimate events.
As a key part of Trail’s vibrant arts scene, the theatre also showcases local talent and supports cultural and heritage organizations. Whether you’re enjoying a touring artist or attending a small community event, there’s always something magical happening at The Bailey.
For history lovers, the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre offers a deep dive into the area’s mining, geology, and heritage. Guided tours bring the stories of this charming mountain town to life, while interactive exhibits and unique artifacts engage visitors of all ages. As a gateway to the Kootenays since 1955, the museum has played an important role in preserving and sharing the region’s cultural and historical wealth.
